Cheers!

Fun day at Crane Way! The big occassion was Larry's 70th birthday bash (the last of about eight different parties). We also took the opportunity to celebrate Ashley & my birthdays too, and threw in a St Patricks bash in case there wasn't enough reason to imbibe & stuff our faces.

This was the first BIG family gathering at the house, and we did okay. Still have to get the hang of the oven (hope you like crispy potatoes), but we were able to get 14 people seated comfortably. If we ever get living room furniture we'll be in good shape.

It was the first time most of Liz's family saw the house, and they did not come empty handed- food, cakes, party favors, and custom labelled vino! Come over and help us open some before it's all gone!

Yellow Butterfly

To the tune of Frere Jacques (Where is Thumkin):

Yellow butterfly, Yellow butterfly
Spread your wings, spread your wings
Fly around in circles, fly around in circles
In the garden, in the garden

(last couple of times, had trouble with the "embed" feature of youtube.  Anyone have any suggestions?)

Everybody Clap!

So Ba Noi got her this ballerina outfit, and she immediately knew what to do.  Bibi taught her a few moves, and we've got a primadonna on our hands....

Transition

These are the last pics from the Moss house, taken while we were getting ready to make the move to Crane. No matter where we live, Huelan will always be rockin.

Crane Way

We've spent two whole weeks in the new house, and it's starting to feel like home. We've got plenty of boxes to unpack still, but we reached a milestone tonight- cleared enough of the garage to fit both cars! It took two bulk pickups, two recycling runs, and i still have one dump run to make. We only have one clicker though, so Liz is parked outside still. Technicality.

It's been quite a ride. We started looking in early 2011, and must have walked into more than 40 houses and virtually toured another 150.
We actually signed for the house just before xmas, which marked about 9 months of serious house hunting. We were all over the map in what we wanted, and we put or agent through the ringer and had her harried more than a few times. After a while, it becomes very easy to talk yourself into something mot quite right; we actually were in contract on another house, which thankfully fell through, and we ended up getting into this one a few weeks later.
Though this house wasn't the move-in ready house we pictured, it has amazing bones and we quckly saw ourselves setting up shop here for a good long while. But it took quite a bit of vision and elbow grease. Mostly other people's grease, but still. A complete kitchen overhaul was the biggest project, which we were lucky enough to get done before move in day (a couple of late nights from the crew got that done).  Now I only have about three dozen small projects around the house.  New tools arrive in the mail every week just about (thanks Amazon.com!).

We've met a bunch of the neighbors and are settling in to the neighborhood. All that's left is for you to come and visit.

Airborne

This is one of the last pics from the Moss Lane house. She has all the makings of a thrill seeker- she sprints head first into every room and will leap off anything. Scares the heck out of us.

Huelan Counts to HaiMuoi

She can count to twenty on her own pretty easily (thanks Gosia and Sesame Street!), but Uncle Anh started teaching her Vietnamese numbers. This was the first time she'd gotten this far. B

Huelan's New Room

Huelan kind of knew we were moving, but didn't imagine that she'd be getting a new room, and even better a big girl bed.

Last she saw this room, all it had was a few toys and her Pink Chair. When she saw it again, it had a fresh coat of girlie green paint and most of her books. She flew right up into her bed and got under the covers.

She still hasn't been able to fall asleep on her own yet, but it took no time at all to get used to her room.
